The Artist

"For as long as I can remember, color, shape and design have fascinated me. Mixing shades and creating contrasts is a passion. My burning passion."
My name is Jonas Sörensson and I am a self-taught artist from Malmö in Southern Sweden. For as long as I can remember, color, shape and design have fascinated me. Mixing shades and creating contrasts is a passion. My burning passion.
After 25 years as a feature film and commercial producer, I have learned to see the beauty of the visual. There has always been a yearning within me to express my own creativity. It was in connection with a house change that I decided to give life to our empty walls on my own. It was time. Time to not only like and think about the artistic expression of others, but to actually create myself. Finally!
I tested several different techniques and materials before finding my style and my own design language. In the majority of paintings today, I strive to move away from the perfect and fully embrace the incomplete. It is often in the "imperfect" that it happens. It is in the blur that the beautiful and exciting come life for me. It is also in the incomplete that the viewer's own imagination and creativity is challenged.
As an artist, I express my passion for color and form. With life and intensity, I create works that then, together with the viewer's eyes, create the final result.
But of course, as an artist it is exciting to explore different forms of expression. I want to be free. So I often work with abstract art but also with more detailed paintings. Both fulfill their unique functions for me. For me, abstract art is about capturing a feeling, an idea that expresses itself through shape, color and texture. The work takes shape and grows without me being tied to anything. There is no right or wrong. It is freedom, desire and life.
But I need to be free to switch. So sometimes I let myself be challenged in a different direction. It is the contrasts that attracts. I then create with more details. Creating detailed paintings is a process that requires a different kind of focus. And it often tests my patience. The reward lies in the satisfaction that each brush stroke contributes to the beautiful and complex whole.
I find particular joy in working with thick layers of paint. It is magical for me to let the paint flow from the brush and create deep textured surfaces. I get energy from using broad strokes that create movement and playfulness on the canvas.
I often paint with a spatula for the added dimension of experimentation. The spatula allows me to mix colors directly on the canvas. It creates both unexpected and fantastically effective results.
Art is exciting, beautiful and brave. I want my paintings to evoke emotions. Your feelings. I want my paintings to stand out and take their obvious place. And nothing makes me prouder than when one of my paintings finds a new home. A place where it belongs.
Please tell me what you think of my art and if there is a particular work that you are attached to. -I love your reflection.
